Comments about DHC Emollient Balm:

I do not use this product anymore but want to champion it out of loyalty as I LOVED it when I was using it. I'm in my forties now and need something stronger so have moved on, but up until about 5 years ago I still had normal to oily/combination skin that would be especially problematic in the summertime. This product is perfect for someone in that category as it moisturizes very well but feels super light and never adds to that oily feeling you can get in hot weather.

As for the smell that many reviews refer to - I agree it's not appealing, but neither do I find it all that objectionable. It basically smells like vitamin B and the reason why I don't mind it is this: I used to use Clarins products a long time ago when they were very natural and did not add many fragrances. Then, I bought their new line of eye and face creams and they reeked of perfume which made me sneeze all day and made my slight rosacea worse. When I took it back to the counter the salesperson told me that the reason for the strong fragrance is that many of the natural ingredients that goes into the products actually smell kind of awful, and sometimes result in an unappealing color to boot. Thus to mask the smell and to make it a nice color they will end up adding ingredients which makes it more appealing to the general masses. Obviously, not all natural ingredients need to mask their odor but apparently many do. So while I agree that the odor of this product can be off putting to some, I think I would rather have that than added fragrances. The smell dissipates pretty quickly once you put it on and it's a small price to pay in my opinion for such a nice moisturizer.

This product is not ideal for someone with super oily skin but if you are in that transitional stage or normal skin I highly recommend it.

I really do love this lotion and I want to continue purchasing it, but I do have a problem with the packaging. While it works wonderfully until it gets near the bottom, it leaves so much in the bottle and because it is a glass, it is difficult to get it all out. It is just thick enough that it doesn't run freely when tipped upside down. I think it would help if the top opening was somewhat larger. Otherwise I really like this lotion.

moisturizer seems to refresh my skin and calm
outbreaks. No oily sheen. Subtle pleasant scent.
Works well under sunscreen, and with makeup.

I just started using this a couple of weeks ago and so far so good. I use it in the AM before applying very little make-up and after using a brightening cleaner.

The product adds visible Coligen to my face. I went to get a facial and the girl said wow you have a nice amount of Coligen in your skin. It's also a nice price and you get a good amount.

This smooths my skin and is enough moisture for face & body on hot summer days. Lets my skin breathe & leaves it glowing & healthy. It's gentle enough to use around my eyes, too.
