This fresh-faced law student from Southern California turned our heads when we discovered her passion: justice for all. Her volunteer experience at a shelter for victims of human trafficking influenced her decision to go to law school—and inspired us to get to know her better.
Life turning point
I was working in Taiwan at a shelter for victims of human trafficking and labor exploitation. I met so many people who wanted nothing more than to make a decent wage and who instead were abused and exploited by traffickers and employers who had no respect for human dignity and whose only concern was profit maximization. I will never forget the incredibly strong and resilient people I had the great fortune of becoming friends with.
Using the law to fight inequality
In Taiwan, I met many migrant laborers who were exploited and abused because they did not know their legal rights and had no access to the legal system or lawyers who would advocate on their behalf. Becoming a lawyer would put me in a better position to address social and economic inequality.
Seeking international justice
I was lucky enough to travel to Cambodia to intern with an organization that monitors the UN-sponsored Khmer Rouge Tribunal. It was such an eye-opening experience getting to learn more about international criminal law.
Cuddly canine companion
A Pekingese/pug mix named Fred whom I love to death.

Culinary obsessions
I wouldn't call myself a foodie, but I like trying new things and experimenting with different flavor combinations. I am inspired by the sophistication of chefs Richard Blais and David Chang, but I also love street food. I especially enjoy making Italian and Mexican food and learning how to cook authentic Vietnamese dishes from my mom.
Skincare is important because …
It's important to be able to feel beautiful in your own skin without the luxury of expensive clothing and accessories. Everyone can take care of their skin.
