Copywriter, editor, and senior advertising artist for The
San Diego Union-Tribune.
FUTURE GOALS
Publishing a book of illustrated poetry, writing interesting
articles for magazines, and finding more time for my art—I
love to paint. Of course, these things have to happen when
I'm not taking my 8-year-old son to martial arts classes,
helping him with homework, making dinner, and so on. And
there's the hubby, too. I have the typical 21st-century
problem of not having enough hours in the day.
INTERESTS AND HOBBIES
My father opened the door to the world of books when I was
in second grade, and I've been a voracious reader ever since.
I also write poetry, sometimes rewriting the works of poets
with a modern take or personal edge. And when the inspiration
hits and time permits, I love to design my own greeting
cards—I work in different media, including oil, watercolor,
graphite, and pastels.
FAVORITE BOOKS
I love Anne Michaels's Fugitive Pieces, Frank Yerby's
Tobias and the Angel, Larry McMurtry's Lonesome
Dove, and the Alexander McCall Smith series No.
1 Ladies Detective Agency. A great nonfiction book
is Molecules of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body
Medicine, by Candace B. Pert, Ph.D., which I encourage
everyone to read. I also adore Barbara Kingsolver. Her background
as a biologist gives books like The Poisonwood Bible
and The Prodigal Summer a special beauty and resonance.
INSPIRATION
Children make me smile with their frank questions, logic,
and calm acceptance of things. It's probably why much of
my own art features kids and why I'm such big fan of
John Singer Sargent. |
FAVORITE DHC PRODUCTS
There are so many. Like most of your customers, Deep
Cleansing Oil is this critic's choice. After using
the Olive Essentials Set for years, I decided to go
a little deeper and use the Olive Leaf Plus Set. I've
read wonderful things about coenzyme Q10, and now
that I'm 40, an "ounce of prevention" is
a prevalent thought. I love the Retino A Pack as well—it's like a mini-makeover in a tube. And if you haven't
tried Purifying Charcoal Gel, Imperial Green Shower
Gel, or Pacific Rim Salt Scrub, you're missing out!
All of my DHC skincare products are as necessary to
me as brushing and flossing my teeth, taking vitamins,
doing yoga, and drinking green tea. Using DHC products
is a healthy thing to do. After all, the skin is the
body's largest organ‹why not give it the best
care you can?
FAVORITE FAMILY ACTIVITY
San Diego has great weather, so we do a lot of hiking
and biking and we spend a lot of time in the park.
We enjoy the San Diego Zoo and its Wild Animal Park.
Sometimes we spend an hour checking out new baby animals,
and sometimes we spend a day hiking through Condor
Ridge and visiting Lion Camp.
HIDDEN TALENT
I think I could have been a great chef or opened a
successful bakery.
