Ah, the power of the flower. Now you have
even more reason to treat yourself to beautiful
bouquets on a regular basis, rather than
just for birthdays and anniversaries—flowers
are good for your mood! Research by a team
headed by Dr. Nancy Etcoff, psychologist,
of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard
Medical School, suggests that flowers create
a sense of happiness, well-being, and harmony
at home.
Penchant for posies
Bouquets were sent to one group of study
participants, and having flowers in the
house improved their state of mind. But
other decorations for the home that were
sent to the control group lacked the emotional
punch of the posies. Dr. Etcoff explains,
"Our recent behavioral study shows
people feel more compassionate toward
others, have less worry and anxiety, and
feel less depressed when fresh-cut flowers
are present in the home. Living with flowers
can also provide a boost of energy, happiness,
and enthusiasm at work."
So stop and smell—and adorn your
home and workplace—with roses, tulips,
and lilies or send flowers to someone
special today and enhance their aura with
a touch of flora.
