I have combination skin, which sometimes results in my makeup looking flawed. What can I do?
Using a makeup primer, such as DHC Velvet Skin Coat, before
applying "your face" not only helps to control
unwanted oiliness, but also promotes a more even tone to
your skin. The end results are a smoother-looking complexion
that's silkier to the touch and makeup application that
can last throughout your busy day.
I notice many of your makeup colors contain the word "ocher." What does that mean?
Ocher is a mineral-based range of colors, with earthy shades in natural pigments from yellows to browns to reds. Because this palette is diverse enough to be flattering for most skin tones, you’ll find several variances of it in our line of DHC Q10 Cream Foundation and Q10 Liquid Foundation.
I’m familiar with translucent powder,
but what are your pastel powders for?
Popular with makeup artists, these powders can be used to enliven your complexion or tone down flushed skin. They are surprisingly easy to use and are much sheerer than they appear in the container. Try DHC Q10 Face Powder in flattering Pink to warm up pale skin or brighten yellow undertones.
DHC Q10 Face Powder in Yellow
helps minimize unwanted pink or red in your complexion.
It's often hard for me to find the right
shade of makeup. What can I do to customize my foundation
and create the best match for my skin tone?
There are several easy ways to customize your makeup if
you are unable find an exact match. Consider keeping more
than one color and texture of foundation on hand. This allows
you to target uneven skin tone or dullness, choose sheer
or greater coverage, and adjust your shade as your skin
tone changes with the seasons.
How to customize your foundation:
Fair to medium
If you have fair to medium skin, blend your existing foundation
with a darker, warmer foundation to deepen your shade during
spring and summer months. Contour your eyes, brows, and
cheekbones or create a personalized, natural-looking tan.
During winter months, select a lighter shade of foundation
or mix a paler hue with your existing foundation.
Medium to dark
For medium to darker complexions, your foundation can be
combined with a lighter or darker shade to create a match
that works best for your skin tone. Mix with a lighter color
to highlight your eyes,
brows, and cheekbones.
You don't have to be a scientist to mix and match foundations.
Anyone can do it—all it takes is a drop or two of
a slightly lighter or darker shade to create a perfect fit.
Tip: Q10 Moist Color Base SPF 30+ can help you attain just
the right hue. Use it to brighten and hide imperfections:
Yellow: counteracts moderate redness
Green: neutralizes severe redness
Pink: perks up yellow and sallow skin
Beige: balances uneven tone
Apricot: warms pale complexions
What is the difference between Q10 Cream Foundation and Q10 Liquid Foundation?
Both foundations offer long-lasting coverage with sun protection and antioxidants to protect against visible signs of aging, but if you are looking for greater coverage with a matte finish then Q10 Cream Foundation is recommended. For a dewier, sheer finish, Q10 Liquid Foundation offers you a moisturizing feel and a luminous glow.
DHC Q10 Cream and Liquid Foundations are available in
14 different multicultural shades.
Many designer makeup brushes use animal
hair—something I'm not comfortable with. What are
yours made of?
Quality tools can make all the difference when it comes
to makeup application, and they don't have to cost you an
arm and a leg. Our products are not tested on animals, so
it should come as no surprise that DHC Makeup Brush Set
was specially designed using easy-to-clean, super-soft synthetic
bristles. The brushes in this eight-piece collection help
provide you with greater control to achieve professional-looking
results while retaining their shape beautifully. Set includes
a chic, travel-friendly case.
I have darker skin and have trouble picking a foundation that works for me. Any tips you
can give me to help me find the perfect match?
Medium and deep complexions often have warm golden undertones,
and rich ebony skin tones usually have cool, almost blue,
undertones. Women with deeper or darker skin tones should
avoid using a foundation that is too pale, which can end
up looking ashy or gray. Use the chart below to help you
the right Q10 foundation color.
How to test your foundation
Under natural light, apply the color on the side
of your face near the jaw line and blend it evenly into
the neck area. An obvious line between your foundation and
your natural skin color means that it's the wrong color.
You'll know you've found the right shade when it seems to
disappear into your skin.
Color Promise
If you're not 100% satisfied with the color of a cosmetic
product you buy from us, return the item within 60 days
of your order date for an exchange or a refund of the purchase
price. Since you can test new colors risk-free, go ahead
and try a foundation shade you've never worn before. It
might be the one for you!
I've always thought of my complexion as
"fair." How do I know whether to use Natural Ocher,
Yellow Ocher, or Pink Ocher foundations?
First, you'll need to determine your undertone by looking
in the mirror and noting the overall hue that comes through—ignoring
your lips, cheeks, and nose. The most prevalent undertones
are natural, yellow, and pink. Here's a hint—if you
tend to burn easily in the sun, you're likely to have a
pink undertone. If you tan easily in the sun, you are likely
to have a yellow undertone. A natural tone contains equal
elements of pink and yellow undertones.
If you determine that you have yellow undertones, choose
our Yellow Ocher foundations. If you have rosy, pinkish
tones, try our Pink Ocher foundations. If you find that
you don't have pronounced pink or yellow undertones,
a Natural Ocher hue is best for you.
Our Q10 Liquid and Cream Foundations range from 00 (for
porcelain skin) to 06 (for darker complexions) and are available
in 14 shades each!
I used to use Liquid Makeup foundation.
Are any of your new Q10 foundation colors similar?
For those of you who loved our old foundations, we hope
you'll give our Q10 Foundation series a try. In response
to customer requests, we've created new and improved foundations
that not only offer beautiful coverage, they're also enriched
with UV protection, age-fighting coenzyme Q10, and they're
more affordable too!
I experience a lot of breakage when applying
mascara. Is there an easy way to strengthen my lashes?
Weak eyelashes need nourishment to endure
the daily rigors of makeup application. DHC Eyelash Tonic
helps combat lash loss. It's a fortifying conditioning gel
that includes ginseng and aloe to help prevent broken eyelashes.
For more resilient, robust lashes, apply Eyelash Tonic from
root to tip before using your favorite DHC mascara, and
again before bedtime to provide additional overnight nutriment.
Help! My lashes are weak from curling
them and wearing mascara daily.
Like you, I can't leave the house without wearing mascara.
My secret for maintaining my lashes is DHC Eyelash Tonic.
Keeping lashes conditioned can help prevent them from weakening
and breaking. I use this gel-based conditioner at night
before I go to sleep. It helps strengthen my lashes with
nurturing and hydrating botanicals, including watercress
and allantoin. Just a couple of coats and I wake up to soft,
yet strong lashes every day. Eyelash Tonic can also be used
under mascara to avoid that brittle spider-lash look. After
applying, try two coats of my favorite mascara—DHC
Mascara Wide Lash‹to add dimension and make your eyes stand
out.
Could you give me tips on how to apply
blush?
Blush can be a tad tricky to apply, but it's worth perfecting
because it accentuates your cheekbones and gives you an
instant glow. The subtle pigment and micro-fine powder in
DHC Face Color Perfect Pro Cheek is naturally flattering. All you need is
the right technique. With a little practice, anyone can
apply blush like a pro. First, apply blush to your
brush, using convenient Face Color Perfect Pro Case.
This handy mirrored compact features a retractable, built-in brush and holds to
cheek colors. Next,
find the "apples" of your cheeks by smiling. Now,
gently apply Face Color Perfect Pro Cheek by sweeping and blending out toward
your temple and hairline (no higher than the top of your
ear). When in doubt, apply where the sun's rays
would normally kiss you with color. For contouring, use in conjunciton
with Face Color Perfect Pro Hightlighter.
How does Fresh Lip Color in Chameleon turn from clear to pink?
It reacts with your body heat to transform from what at
first glance looks like a lip cream into the delicious pink
tint you see. One of the reasons I love all DHC Fresh Lip
Colors is that they give you just a hint of color without
overpowering your look. They also help prevent chapped lips
with conditioning ingredients olive oil and vitamin E.
It's so difficult to choose from the six luscious colors
DHC offers. Is this the right color for me? Does it flatter
my skin tone? But with Fresh Lip Color in Chameleon, you
can't go wrong. When applied to your lips, this magic formula
reveals a unique pink hue just right for you.
Can you give me tips on how to apply Q10 Liquid Foundation?
Shake the bottle well to mix Q10 Liquid Foundation. Place
a small amount of foundation on the back of your hand. Dip
DHC Makeup Sponge B into it. Apply makeup to the center
of face; spreading outward to cheeks, forehead, and chin.
Blend out toward your jaw line and hair line until the foundation
appears to vanish.
If you're like me and prefer to use bristle brushes to
apply your makeup, here's another idea: Use DHC Face Brush
or DHC Cheek Brush—they're not just for loose powder.
Using a high-quality makeup brush to apply liquid foundation
allows you to buff your way to a flawless, dewy complexion,
and makeup blends easily onto skin without leaving any noticeable
lines.
How do I choose a foundation that is right
for me?
It's important to choose a foundation color with a base
that will complement your complexion. The most natural-looking
shades should disappear into your own skin color. An obvious
line between your foundation and your natural skin color
means that your foundation is the wrong color. The colors
that will look most organic against your skin are the colors
you find in your skin. Conversely, the colors that will
create vibrancy are those that contrast.
In selecting a foundation, choose colors that replicate
your skin's natural hues. If your skin is yellow-toned or
slightly ruddy, your foundation should have yellow undertones,
not pink, and vice versa.
It's better to assess your options in natural light to
test if a color is right for you. Start by putting several
colors on the side of your face, just above the jaw line.
Lightly fade out the edges so that you can see the true
color of the base. If none of the shades work, try custom
blending a few shades together.
I just bought the new DHC Makeup Brushes.
When and how do I wash them?
Made from high-quality nylon, our new makeup brushes, with
proper care, can last up to several years or longer, depending
on use. You'll know it's time for a wash when the brushes
begin to feel heavy on your skin or when it seems as if
they are no longer holding powder with their original gusto.
Be careful, however—frequent washing can cause unnecessary
wear and damage to the bristles.
To lengthen the time between cleanings, use a tissue or
soft towel to gently wipe product from the bristles after
each use. To wash, thoroughly wet bristles and apply a small
drop of a gentle shampoo, such as DHC Mild Shampoo (request
a free sample with your next order), directly to the bristles.
Carefully swirl the bristles in your palm, using your fingertips
to loosen any stubborn product. When the solution appears
clean, rinse bristles under running lukewarm water. Gently
squeeze excess water from the bristles and shape them back
to their original form. Proper drying is key: be sure to
lay brushes flat (never upright) for drying.
I purchased DHC Liquid Eyeliner, but
it seemed to dry out rather quickly. Is it defective?
Most likely not. DHC Liquid Eyeliner needs to be shaken
well when it's new and also before each use. The more time
between uses, the more the product will settle away from
the tip and thus the more shaking it will require. Simply
give the pen a few quick shakes prior to each use—you'll
even hear the mixing ball inside. If it still seems dry,
hold it in a tip-down "writing" position to allow
the product to flow back into the tip. After each use, replace
the cap tightly, making sure it snaps closed. Not doing
so may result in the product's drying up.
