I recently began using the DHC Olive Essentials Set and my skin overall has shown tremendous improvement. However, I seem to be getting little whitehead-like breakouts around my mouth and chin. What could be causing this?

It is likely that the cause of this condition is the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil. But wait! Don't stop using it just yet! Just as it's not uncommon to break out following a facial, a truly deep cleansing of the pores with Deep Cleansing Oil will pull up dirt and other impurities trapped deep within your skin. As these impurities begin to surface, they can sometimes cause minor breakouts, often in the form of tiny whiteheads. This condition only affects a small percentage of users and each person's experience will vary. Typically, however, it can last anywhere from a week to ten days, after which it should clear right up to lend a smoother clearer complexion than before. To help expedite this process, use a clay mask, such as DHC Mineral Mask, to help pull dirt out even faster. A lightly astringent (yet non-alcohol) toner such as DHC Balancing Lotion will also help to remove excess sebum and unclog and tighten pores.

I see that some DHC sets include two cleansers, such as Deep Cleansing Oil and Mild Soap, while others simply include a soap. How do I know if I should be using both or just one?

Removing makeup is one step, and washing your face with a traditional cleanser like soap is another. Using both Deep Cleansing Oil and Mild Soap is the best way to ensure your skin is thoroughly cleansed, especially if you're someone who wears makeup daily. Deep Cleansing Oil is specially formulated to mix with the oil-based components in makeup and "melt" into water on contact so that dissolved makeup can then rinse away.

Soaps generally are lathering products that contain surfactants, which aid in emulsifying oils and suspending dirt on your skin, allowing them to be easily rinsed away. They also create surface tension that helps pull dirt and grime from the skin. On days that you don't wear makeup, using just one cleanser, such as Mild Soap, Pure Soap, Olive Soap, Cleansing Foam, Washing Powder, or Face Wash will do.
