Botanical beginnings
Comfrey—once commonly known as "knitbone"
for its purported helpfulness in healing sprains and
fractures—has been used since 400 BC as a medicinal
herb for many ailments, including broken bones, ulcers,
arthritis, and burns. Its significance to skincare
also burgeoned, as it was considered a beneficial
treatment for wounds that helped promote healing.
Just what is it about this member of the forget-me-not
family that makes it unique? |

| Scientific
standards
The roots and leaves of comfrey contain allantoin,
a botanical extract believed to promote the natural
turnover of cells and have soothing, anti-irritant
properties that encourage healthier-looking skin.
We use nature-identical allantoin in many of our products—lab-developed
to maintain standards of stability and quality. You
can find calming and revitalizing allantoin in Mild
Cleansing Cream, which is gentle on maturing complexions;
Head Shampoo, which helps leave your hair lustrous;
and toning Balancing Lotion, which helps bring some
equilibrium to stressed skin.
