"Everything works so perfectly, it all does exactly what it says it's going to do—this kind of quality is hard to find."

Artist, baker, seller, blogger, seamstress. I always create. Every day. I have to.

Phoenix rising
I was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I've lived in the Twin Cities and Washington, D.C., where I met my husband, Joseph. After we married, we moved to Vermont for two years then relocated to Phoenix, Joseph's hometown. I love Phoenix. We have all the sunshine I crave.

Local baking
I bake for a local coffee shop and its two locations. I bake seven days a week. I use only locally grown and milled flour and am the only baker in the city doing that.

Body of art
My tattoo goes from my right upper arm up over onto my back, across the small of my back, then up the other side then onto my left upper arm. Some of it was designed by an artist friend of mine, the rest by tattoo artists who drew directly onto my body. I also have a tattoo of our beloved Goody—who was the world's best dog. He died way before his time and broke our hearts. The tattoo is incredible, black only, on my left leg—because Goody was always on my side.

Getting your dog "fix"
My current dog, Teddy, is just over three years old. Teddy is half pit bull and half Boston terrier—according to her DNA test results. I am a dog lover. I could talk about dogs all day long. I also have a blog, In Phoenix, the abbreviation is PHX, pronounced "fix". So the blog's motto is "DOG PHX, get yours." I interview local dog lovers who are doing cool things to make Phoenix a unique and vibrant place. I post DIY projects, product reviews and more.

More about Catherine

Tell us about your sewing.
I'm in the process of creating a prototype for a sewn product that I want to make and sell. I taught myself to sew in 2004 and have made my own patterns and taught classes in sewing and workshops and have helped a lot of people get creative with their own sewing projects.

Why is it important to you to give back?
There would be no community if we all don't participate in it. If we want good lives and healthy systems we have to show up, stand up and participate.

Where do you like to travel and why?
Washington, DC and New York City. They are both so vibrant and international with incredible diversity and variety.

Favorite DHC products

Q10 Body Soap
It never dries my skin.

Soothing Lotion
This is magic stuff; it never dries my face. Just being outside in Phoenix, you can get a thin coating of dust and not really know it until you wash your face, so it's important to wash and tone a lot.
