I love foods that looks and tastes like you worked all day in the kitchen but in reality is the opposite. I was so impressed with this chowder, I plan to have it when I entertain. With my first try of the chowder, I added shrimp and I'm looking forward to adding clams or tuna the next time. But actually, I don't think I needed to add anything. In preparation, I used half-and-half vs milk for a richer flavor and consistency. Since I had leftover chowder (it makes up a lot!), the next day I had to add a little liquid to thin it some, since it seems to have gotten thicker. If you want something quick, easy and hits the spot, try Red Peppercorn Chowder. I found it delicious!

I used this mix to make the recipe on the DHC website (with chicken) while family were visiting from out of town. To keep it a little healthier, I used skinless breasts and thighs and it worked great. They all loved it and asked for the recipe (including my dad!). I'm buying packages of the mix for them as presents. This would be delicious by itself as a soup, or with some added pre-cooked chicken pieces (left over rotisserie perhaps?) as a fast and easy chicken corn chowder as well. It's simple to make and has a lovely herbal aroma (the sage is scrumptious smelling as it cooks) and it's low sodium which is a big plus (So many packaged mixes are way too salty for my taste, not to mention it's not healthy).

This corn chowder mix is a great buy! Don't be fooled by it's small packaging, it yields many servings, especially after adding proteins. I enjoy using seafood with the chowder, turning it into a seafood chowder with little neck clams, mussels, shrimp and fish. Add a little spice for extra flavor and you have a great dinner meal in about 45 minutes.

My only complaint is that there is too much rice in the mix, I try to separate it when pouring it into the pot but it's difficult.

I used this in the braised chicken recipe listed in the catalog. It is so good. I did add 1/4 cup more rice and it was perfect. A little expensive but worth it.

The Red Pepper Corn Chowder was delicious. It was a bit spicy, but not overly so. I put in scallops (as suggested). I made the chowder exactly as printed on package and we had no complaints. However, next time I'll thicken the liquid a bit to make it more chowdery. Will definitely order again.
