As a working mom, bubbly Sherri Simonsen balances her job as a preschool teacher with taking care of her husband and two young sons. She takes time to tell us about her favorite hobbies—snagging a bargain!—work-life balance and beauty favorites.

Staying healthy
I am careful about what I eat, although I don’t deprive myself of special treats! I also love Pilates. A friend became an instructor a few years ago and encouraged me to take a class. I was hooked. I ended up buying a couple of Pilates DVDs to do at home when I can’t make it into the studio.

Beauty icons
I think the women I know now and those I’ve known through the years are most iconic ... beautiful inside and out. I once heard a quote that went something like, “You can take no credit for beauty at 16 but if you are beautiful at age 60, it will be your soul’s own doing.”

Beauty influences
My mother, my grandmother and my beautiful friends! A girls’ night out always includes conversation about our latest skin care routine.

How would you describe your personal style?
I took a quiz last year and discovered that my style is “Bohemian/Classic.” I guess that means I keep a lot of classic pieces in my closet but mix them up with current things to keep it fun.

Favorite kind of shopping
I love surfing the Internet in the privacy of my own home but there’s nothing like getting your hands on things when you’re out and about.

Cutest work story
After teaching about George Washington, I had one adorable little girl announce that her dad knows George Washington and had lunch with him last week!

Maintaining work-life balance
Keep a schedule for household chores, and so on, but don’t get nutty if you can’t accomplish the things that can wait until the next day. Paying attention to your children is a whole lot more important than paying attention to the daily grind.

A gorgeous five-foot-six-inch long glass and iron coffee table with inch-thick glass for $200. The woman was moving back to England and couldn’t ship it over. The appraisal I had done said the glass alone would cost $800 to replace.
