Glenda Chenault loves to stay busy. She and her husband, Wayne, run two Laundromats, own seven pure-water kiosks and have renovated two houses that they rent to college students in their hometown. Lucky for us, she wasn’t too busy to come to San Francisco and pursue her other interest—becoming a model who represents the baby boomer generation—at our photo shoot. Keep reading for her beauty tips and proof that you should definitely wear sunscreen every day.
Interests and hobbies
In addition to renovations, I love designing landscapes and also doing the hands-on work of planting. I love to entertain and do it frequently. I am also very active in Al-Anon and sponsor several ladies. I have been a part of that program for more than 20 years.
The last several years, my five remaining sisters and I have gone on a road trip, usually to Alabama to see an aunt who turns 100 next year. Her age is our inspiration to be together, stay healthy, laugh, enjoy each other’s company and share our lives while we can.
From my generation, I like Jaclyn Smith. I also think Sharon Stone is beautiful.
You might be surprised to learn
I have always wanted to write children’s books to help them deal with life when a parent is addicted. Kids think they’re the only ones going through that, and that no one understands. I want to let them know that many other children are experiencing what they are experiencing.
Best skincare advice
Wear sunscreen daily! I have worn it for over 40 years, even before there was a product for the face.
Skincare is important to me because…
To be honest, I don’t want to look old. I am going to fight it as long as I can.
On feeling beautiful in your own skin
Put your best face forward every day, even when you’re staying home all day. Think beautiful thoughts and do something nice for someone daily. Most of our feelings of beauty come from within.
More about Glenda
How do you stay active?
Actual work is one way. I am sporadic about going to formal exercise. I just get up early and get moving doing some physical, hands-on labor, and my television time is extremely limited.
What is your advice to others on staying active throughout their lives?
Don't sit! Just get up and do something. Use it or lose it.
Where else do you like to travel??
When I get to travel, I prefer to go see my grandchildren. Three (ages 19, 17 and 15) are in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and one (age 13) is in Cypress, Texas, near Houston. I have also been on cruises with several members of my family—lots of fun!
