OCCUPATION
Award-winning romance novelist. In 1987, I had stories and
characters in my head, bursting to get out. I sat down at
a desk in a room in my parents' house and started typing.
When I first began writing, I had no clue about how to build
a story. I joined writers groups, read hundreds of how-to
books, attended workshops and conferences, entered contests,
and started submitting my work to editors. Finally, after
18 years of hard work, I became an "overnight success" and
sold my first book.
ON CREATIVITY
Contrary to popular belief, writing is not glamorous. It's hard, brain-numbing, sweat-on-the-brow work. Creativity doesn't materialize out of the ether, but sometimes a character or a scene might. If I waited for the creativity fairy to tap me on the head with her magic writing wand, I'd never write anything.
FUTURE GOALS
To have a book on The New York Times Best Seller List. I would also like to try my hand at writing a screenplay.
ROLE MODEL
The goddess of romance, Nora Roberts.
INSPIRATION
My inspiration is my husband, Mike, and our daughter, Lilly.
Mike is the kind of man who never says die. Although Lilly
has a mental handicap, she isn't afraid to try something
new. She has taught me the meaning of perseverance with
her steadfast courage. She is an accomplished skater who
competes and participates in the Ice Show each year at Denver
University. I see her bright smile and know that if she
can put herself out there and try new things without fear
of failure, so can I.

FAVORITE
